Woodworm Rescue

I'm not entirely sure I did the right thing rescuing this little wood muncher, but it made for a more interesting morning I must admit.

I was planing down a piece of old oak I had lying around and discovered this little chap a few millimetres down into the wood having a great time chewing through the sapwood (near the bark).

I'd never taken a close look at one before so thought it might be interesting to see it actually taking bites out of the oak wood.

Time was ticking on so I scooped it up out of its' food trough and carried it outside on an oak leaf. The only thing that seemed appropriate was to introduce it to a nearby oak tree. I had work to do and needed to get on with it. The little fella had eaten plenty of my oak, so time to find a new place to live.

I hope it doesn't damage the beautiful old oak tree I left it near. It's a strong old tree, I'm sure it can fend off these little critters - It probably won't be able to chew through the thick bark - I hope!

Arghh , Back to work!
