Antique Kitchen box shelves (custom design)

These shelves were made from the same old cedar crate I used for the first spice rack. After removing all the nails and selecting the most interesting planks, I jointed them into wider shelving and box sides.

I finished off with iron nails and beeswax to give these shelves the antique look.

I really love how the  beeswax feels on the wood without discolouring it in any way. I don't ever want to use wood stain or resins because natural wood is where the beauty lies - all I have to do is uncover it.

These shelves sold for £240 with the iron work. The cost for antique kitchen shelves starts from £175.00 and is only increased by the time taken to prepare the timbers ( breaking up and removing nails) which varies a lot depending where the wood is sourced.
